What's So Special About Taco Rings

Whether hosting a formal event or an informal party, taco rings can make your tables glow. It is because of the way they look and taste.

The filling is made with ground beef or minced chicken and is covered with a crescents roll dough. The fun thing here is that the meat is not fully enclosed in the dough but in stripes, making the overall look elegant.

Prepare Your Own Taco Seasoning Mix

There's no need to buy taco seasoning from the store when you can make it yourself. Likewise, there's no reason for a store-bought seasoning when you have to adjust the spices at home. Some prefer fewer spices, while some like their tacos hot and spicy. We'll share a recipe for taco seasoning in which you can add or reduce spices per your taste.

Ingredients:

  • Red chili powder (1 tsp)
  • Black pepper powder (1 tsp)
  • Red chili flakes (¼ tsp)
  • Kosher salt (1 tbsp)
  • Cumin seeds (2 tsp, grounded)
  • Garlic powder (½ tsp)
  • Onion powder (½ tsp)
  • Dried oregano (¼ tsp)
  • Fennel seeds powder (a pinch)
  • Thyme (½ tsp)

Procedure:

Mix all the ingredients and store them in an air-tight container. The seasoning would easily last for months.

1. Classic Beef Taco Ring

Beef is the most commonly used meat in all taco ring recipes. Its

Ingredients

For the dough:

  • All-purpose flour (2 cups)
  • Butter (2 tbsp)
  • Milk powder (3 tbsp)
  • Sugar (1 ½ tbsp)
  • Salt (¼ tsp)
  • Active dry yeast (1 tbsp)
  • Warm milk (4 tbsp)
  • Water (to knead the dough)

For the filling:

  • Minced beef (250 gm)
  • Cooking oil (3 tbsp)
  • Prepared taco seasoning (2 tbsp or to taste)
  • Mozzarella cheese (grated)
  • Egg (1)

Procedure:

Prepare the dough: Add the dry ingredients to a bowl and mix. Now add milk and water and knead until it forms a dough. Add butter and knead for another minute. Cover with parchment paper and let it rise for a couple of hours.

Prepare the filling: Put oil and minced meat in a pan and saute for five minutes. Now add the prepared taco seasoning and a splash of water. Cover and cook on medium-low flame until the beef meat is soft.

The dough is now double in volume. Dust the kitchen counter with flour and roll the dough until it forms a tortilla-like shape. Cut the dough into eight equal parts using a roller blade (cut the same way as you do with a pizza). The cut dough pieces are triangular-shaped.

Take a large pizza pan and place the cut dough pieces in it (in a way that the pointed part is outward and there is space left in the center).

Pour the filling on top of the dough crescents. Add a generous amount of mozzarella on top and fold the dough crescents (enjoin the pointed parts with the wider ones in the center).

Brush egg on top and bake in a preheated oven at 200 C for 20 minutes.

2. Chicken and Sausages Taco Ring

Chicken taco rings take the least time to cook and are super easy. However, this recipe has a twist - we will make the thin dough stripes uncovering chicken sausages and pour the chicken taco filling over them.

Ingredients:

  • Crescents dough (1 roll)
  • Chicken sausages (4-5)
  • Chicken minced (200 grams)
  • Onion (1 small, finely chopped)
  • Cooking oil (4 tbsp)
  • Taco seasoning (2 tbsp or to taste)
  • Sour cream (2 tbsp)
  • Tomato ketchup (2 tbsp)

Procedure:

Cut the dough into narrow stripes and chop the sausages in half. Wrap the thin dough strips around the mini sausages and lay them along the corners of a round pizza pan. Bake at 200 C for 20 minutes.

While the sausages are in the oven, saute onions in a pan. Add minced chicken and taco seasoning and stir until the chicken is soft for five minutes. Put ketchup and sour cream and cook until it's all done.

Take the cooked sausages out of the oven and pour the prepared mixture into the center. Garnish with mint and cilantro leaves.
